Eating Our Feelings in Barcelona.

Last night Jess actually said, “I hate travelling”. Keep in mind this is the same Jess that thinks it’s a bad year if she “only gets on two trips”. The bitterness probably had to do with the impending goodbyes.

Let’s recap. Remember those two Australian brothers we met last May while waiting for a train to Cinque Terre? We saw one of them, Adam, when we went to Australia back in December. But his brother Ben lives in Spain. Obviously, it just didn’t feel right seeing one brother and not the other. So we just spent two days visiting Ben in Salou–an hour from Barcelona by train.

I’ll be honest–we weren’t happy campers on the train back to Barcelona today. Maybe we’re not the only ones who have a love/hate relationship with travel. Getting the chance to travel is incredible. Just be warned. The more you travel, the more people you’ll meet, the more chance of running into people that you really connect with, and then what? Well, then you say goodbye and tell travel you hate it, haha. (Even though you don’t actually mean it.)

So what’d we do as soon as we tossed our backpacks on our hostel beds in Barcelona??!! FOOD. We ate our feelings. Specifically, a burger from Bacoa and cronuts from Chok. It is seriously difficult to give in to sadness while eating a cronut, folks. Especially one that’s dipped in chocolate and smothered in toffee. It probably also helped that the burger bar was filled with locals and tourists-all watching the football game. And all in a fine mood. Maybe because the game was still scoreless.

Are we still sad from saying goodbye to Ben? Obviously. Visiting Ben was pretty much the main reason behind this trip to Europe, and now that part is over. So yes, we’re sad. Jess is probably still a little bitter towards Travel.

However, tonight we’re in a beautiful city in a beautiful country and tomorrow we fly to Dubrovnik, Croatia.

Do we love Travel? Yes. But that doesn’t mean we always have to like it.
